I managed to get a quick hunt in yesterday afternoon. Had just enough time to get over the hill behind the house and sit on a terrace in the middle of the field. Had 5 antlerless deer walk past me right at dark followed by a nice young 8 point. Two fawns were on back behind him. That was fun. This morning I saw 2 does running across a field as I was driving to the hog farm. Since I've been here, I've seen one young 6 point walk by and a 4 point chasing a big doe. A fair amount of shooting near.

I just have to keep letting the young bucks walk for now. I may shoot one on my vacation and will certainly take at least one doe before the end of the season. For now it's fun to watch. Oh, and after I made that post, I was walking out of the woods and a doe and 2 fawns trotted up beside me and went on across the power line. A 7 point came behind. He stopped with his head behind a tree and the steam from his breath was blowing out the other side. I got a good look at his antlers when he turned.
So 3 bucks, 2 does, and 2 fawns this morning.

Yesterday afternoon I pulled one of those stunts by forgetting to put a bullet in the chamber. Glad I didn't see the monster buck!!

I've been in the stand since 1130 and my feet are cold. I'd love to have a little heater like that

Ranger, they aren't expensive. And will keep you toasty warm. Plus a pair of muck boots, I finally bought a new pair after 9 years. Never had a cold foot problem since the first purchase.

Love my little heater, makes hunting on cold days a lot more enjoyable.

Yes, they aren't that expensive.

One of the saddest sounds there is on a cold morning, is when that heater makes the familiar "sound" that tells me I'm about to run out of propane :(
