Hey errrrbody

Postby chadbragg » Mon Sep 11, 2017 7:19 pm

Just sharing an update on whats been going on with me. My dad passed away on July 4th and i went from 2ac to 40ac to maintain. It has taken me a while to get the pasture and fence lines back in order but its slowly coming together. I managed to get the entire pasture bush hogged and have almost all of the fence repaired and hope to get some cows in the next couple weeks. I also managed to put a winter wheat/dove field in and we killed 24 birds off of it monday evening.
I am just starting to run my cameras so im a bit behind.
BUTTTTTT I have secured a 130ac farm in indiana and looking forward to see what it produces! Me and Jlawson80 will be spending a few weekends up there soon! ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

For years we thought we had to have cows. They were a constant headache. All the time. We still consider the day we loaded the last one going to the sale a high point in our lives.

i enjoyed our cows, until i got older. it seems like they were constantly getting out in the middle of the night, getting pink-eye, mastitis, injuring themselves, having calving trouble, etc.

then having to keep them wormed & healthy. plus our cows were a little wild too, so it was difficult to round them up & take care of them.

Another vote for they are more trouble than they are worth unless you have enough to sell and make money. We ranged from 10 to 60 head in the last 20 years. Having a full herd was actually easier in some ways than having a few. They are herd animals and having a good herd lead is what it's all about. Our bull was like a puppy he would follow you around waiting for carrots. Our big female was a mean ass and would step on you in a sec. but she was good at bringing the herd in to the paddock for round up.
By the pricking of my thumbs...Something wicked this way comes.

Four heifers doesn't hardly justify having a bull. Get at least 10 if you're going to get any.

Havent been on here in a while lately. Sorry to hear about your dad.

My grandfather had cattle years ago and like many have said he always said the greatest day was watching them getting loaded up to leave!!

I have three now a Cow and calf and an young heifer. Usually keep at least one to be put in the freezer. But if could make a recommendation just get the heifers, bulls can be borrowed, or in most cases it is cheaper to AI the cows.
