Nothing like the sunrise in the Rocky Mountains

unless it's a sunset

It took this

to get this

It's not pretty, but I need to practice more at 400 yards (it was 425ish). The tumble ruffed his hair up too
I shot his antler off, but its on the mend now

My bro's 1st elk on his 1st elk hunt

THis is blurry, but this pig of a mulie came out almost every day in the canyon i was hunting

Re: Colorado
I took two trailcams with me this year, hoping to get a cat or bear on it..

This nosy cow knocked my trailcam down the post it was attached too.

I put a cam on my bro's gut pile just to see.. 1st thing back a couple hours later was the herd looking for their friend

Mr Badger. When in the mountains, if you see fresh dirt, don't go nosing around too close.. These things aren't friendly !

Lastly our hotel visitor

Awesome time and hunt. I'm finally lining up a hunt for second season through a friend. Gonna pay for a drop camp DYI. It's my first time so not setting my sights high. Looking to kill but more for the experience and journey. Any pointers are appreciated.

Your correct, the experience will be the best part, and if you are lucky to get a kill, that's just icing on the cake.
Pointers? Get in shape, and take good boots, with good ankle support, that are broken in already ! We didn't hunt that high, and I still couldn't walk 15 yards uphill without pausing for air

Get hydrated before hand, and stay hydrated ! Drink so much water that your eyes are floating ..
Lay off the bugle calls, and get a easy cow call to blow, and blow it just to make something stop long enough for a look.
Layer your clothes. Be prepared for 65 degree one day, and 17 and snow the next.
Just go and have fun.

Thanks for the reply. I've never been to Colorado. When you say boots we are talking about 8" hiking boots correct? How much insulation do you suggest? Looking at a pair of danners from cabelas. 400, 600 or 800 grams? Of course it will have goretex, there is no substitution.
I will also buy a packable rain suit

Re: Colorado
i have two pair of boots I carry.. One is a pair of Rocky "RAM" boots.. They are 600 gram thinsulate. I only wear these if its cold..
my other boots are a pair of old timberlands.. they have many many many miles on them and are super broke in. They aren't insulated much, but are waterproof and beyond comfortable. I wore them all this year in CO because it wasn't that cold
