I’ve seen a thread on another site about old stands in the woods. So let’s post them up here. I was scouting tensas nwr today and came across this stand. It’s before my time. I’ve only seen a couple like this. ImageImageImage

There is a old amaker in a tree on my property, will try to get a pic of it tomorrow.

I hunted a few when I was a kid. Those are the coldest things I ever hunted in. I guess it was all of the metal. Oh, and talk about a tight fit. Thanks for sharing it. It brings back a lot of memories.

I’ve only seen one that was still hanging. It was the poor mans version I’m told w just a single barrel that you had to stand the whole time. I asked a local and asked what did they use to climb with? He replied cotton spindles driven in the tree for spikes.

I used to hunt out of them years ago. Single barrel, with half the front cut out for entry. They had a 2x10 ran through the sides for a seat and heavy canvas tarp to cover front after you were seated. The tarp helped keep you warm.

Yep, I’ve seen the cotton spindles used.

Several barrel stands on our place in Grenada. They were old when I started hunting there in 1980 or so.

Here’s one that was hanging on my dads property , as far as I know it was still there when we sold it. A barrel chained to a tree about 12 foot high. No thanks!! Image

looks more like something to make moonshine with . When you bumped your rifle against the side of that stand, i bet every deer in the county heard it..

i've used cotton spindles before, they were cheap and had plenty .. I know the lumber folks hated them
