6.5 Grendel Second Hunt

Postby jbullard1 » Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:20 pm

It's been almost 2 years since HoneyBee and I went deer hunting. We leased 400 acres close to us and have done no foodplots or anything. The area is 10 year old cutover timberland with a couple of sweet tater fields in the mix.
We got up late today and decided to just go watch the field and me the powerline. I was there 20 minutes when a nice nanny came out at 325 yards and stopped. The 6.5 took her heart out but that tough old gal still ran almost 100 yards into the dang briers and scrub brush. We have her on ice now and soon will process her. Sure feels good to have a place to hunt again with no drama. If you are looking for a top of the line AR-15 rifle caliber the 6.5 will be hard to beat. And It makes a really cool Primitive Weapon of choice. :2TU:

Fun times again! You don’t have to have food plots.

25 acre sweet tater fields work just fine this year. The market is so low for canners that the farmer let all the canners run off the digger. One field in almost in the middle of the property, very secluded.
