New deer stand project.

Postby huntall » Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:51 pm

I have a new lane to clear at the edge of a thick grown up cutover.
I am trying to talk myself into using the extra day off friday to get started
on it before it gets real hot. I have already bushhoged before winter, but
now it is saw work that needs to be done. I will need to put up a box stand
as soon as I can. I dont like to wait till AUG. or Sept. to do these things.
I could get a lot more done now in a day than in Aug.
Any of yall started new projects yet?

I work on projects here all year round. It pays to be early and get things in shape while there are some cooler mornings still available. Deer are not nearly as likely to react at this time of the year to some entry into their territory and if they do, there will be plenty of time for them to settle back into their normal routine.

But getting anyone to help this time of year is the hard thing to accomplish. I called my bow hunting buddy who lives nearby this afternoon to offer to walk with him into the woods to retrieve his climber that he left behind since deer season. Too hot, he said, even at 6:00 pm. He wants to do it early one morning. No chance in getting him to actually help clear trails or do any real work if he won't even go take down his climber!

I agree with you 100% . I start my projects as soon as season is over. Start with a list of things to be done, start with small goals and mark them off as they are done. Next thing you know, you will have them completed before you know.

I picked up another 200ac. And like always it's a "One man" team. (ME) !! The other two members always have other things they need to do . I work weekends they don't . I give them small tasks ,bushogging, triming branches, etc. But, It never seems to get done .

I am going to start in the morning with my oldest son tagging
along with me. This is the land I bought last fall but didnt have
the time to do much work before season started last year.
This is only one of the big projects I have to get done before season
starts.

I got a lot done clearing the brush and trees. It really feels great to be done with
that part this early in the year! It is ready for my stand to be built. This is
a picture I took with my phone ( Maybe you can see the picture well enough
I also broke ground for my summer plots. :2TU:

I think im going to get the wood for my stand
and start building it at home this weekend. It will
be too wet to get in the woods this weekend. I like
to pre fab the walls so it will not take so long when
I get help to put it up. I can work on it more than
just the weekends this way.
