Estimating deer population

Anyone have a clue how this is done :?: I'd like to get some idea of the herd size where I hunt 8)

For the next 4 years shoot EVERY doe you see and don't kill a single buck.
then kill 3 does to ever buck.

Yes.. I used to have a formula for calculating your deer population, and the buck-doe ratio, by crunching data from trailcams.. I'll see if I cant dig it up..

One club I was on, we recorded every deer we saw, how big and estimated age.

That is, every hunter kept a record all the deer he saw.

at end of the season the pocke notebooks were turned into the Prez and the data was sorted my buck and doe.

Total numbers were calculated and the buck numbers was reduced by 10% as that was how many was possibly seen twice.

Doe numbers were decreased by 25%.

This gave a pretty reliable indication of the ctual deer herd.
