Question for thinned timber/clearcuts

Postby nontypical » Wed Apr 06, 2016 6:47 pm

I'm looking at a property that had 150 acres clearcut last summer, 300 acres of pines was thinned last summer and 250 more will be thinned this summer. The clearcut has a lot of activity in it right now as vegetation starts to sprout. Question, the block of pines that will be thinned soon, how will it be affected this season? I have hunted some clearcuts and thinned pines that were a year old with success but not any experience with timber that was thinned the summer before deer season, thanks for any replies

Like said, should make it better if they get it done well before season opens... a timber company start cutting on some of our leased land the week gun season opened and only cut several days before the rain stopped them but it messed up the hunting for the whole season.

when the sunlight hits the forest floor, good things happen.. Should make for plenty of browse this fall if they go ahead and get it done.. and just hope they don't come back and spray that stuff that kills everything but pines.
