AR-15 6.5 Grendel

Postby jbullard1 » Sat Jan 20, 2018 2:37 pm

If any of you consider an AR-15 for hunting I'd like to suggest the 6.5 Grendel for the cartridge.
I have been more impressed with this caliber than any other in the past.
As you know the AR platform has stocks that will adjust, it is light weight, and is super accurate.
You do not have to spend a lot of money to upgrade your current AR.
As of today I have fired mine in anger 3 times, the first time was a nice doe at 325 yards, today was at a coyote at 490, first shot missed, second did not.
The round has very little recoil and the Hornady Ammo I use does not have the muzzle blast of my 30-06

A guy on our street had one in 243 wsm. Said it shot great, but couldn't afford the ammo. I've never heard of wsm in ar platform ?

 , I bet he couldnt. I dont think I would want something running that hot out of an AR. Might as well have a 240 Wby Mag. I would definitely have to handload for that .

Yes I have several Ar rifles, but I have come to the conclusion they are just inventing new calibers to sell.
My 6.5 Grendel is a fantastic round but I don't think it really out preformes my 30-06.

Lot less powder, bullet, and recoil!

Yep, kind of like the 6.5 Needmore. It is amazing how marketing sells rifles especially when the almost identical twin already exists.

There is a pretty good difference in a 6.5 Grendel and a 6.5 Creedmore
The 6.5 Creedmore is very close to to the OLD Remington 260. And yes you are correct. Marketing the new stuff

Not yet. I plan to build one this summer. I really like the caliber in my TC bolt gun though.

Correct, it is the pretty much the identical twin to the 260(except 260 is just a tad faster generally) and not to mention that brass is a lot easier to acquire or resize for the 260. The availability of 308 cases is endless compared to a now defunked 30 TC. There is nothing that a Needmore can do that has not already been done with the 260. I guess the Needmore is the "better new mouse trap" thanks to a huge marketing campaign by Hornady. But to be honest they are both a tad slow for me :stir: The 6.5 that catches my fancy is the 6.5-300 WBY :)

Just read where Hornady is about to begin pimping heavy the "new" 6mm Creedmoor . Before long there will be a "Creedmoor" in every caliber at this rate. Guess people really like the name Creedmoor. From all I have read and researched it is the ballistic twin to a 243Win. I guess Hornady figures they will turn the world against the time proven 308 cases in favor of a 30TC case.
