Which One Do I Need

Postby jbullard1 » Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:05 am

This is another survey for my learned hunter friends.
My daughter wants a deer rifle in her words "My Own" I have a 243 barrel for the NEF 45 70 but NNOOOO.
It will be a bolt action and she is tall enough to shoot a regular size rifle I dont think she would have a problem with a 270 or 30 06 but she thinks they Kick. She killed her deer with her husbands 7mm mag and didnt notice it kicked till she shot it again a couple days ago
So what do you think?

My father in law has the 7mm/08 and he actually likes it. My brothers in law finally got him away from the 223 that he was using and he's finally killing deer that we don't have to track for 200 yards.

I voted for the 7mm simply cause she has killed a deer with it and feels it doesn't kick (or kick as much as the others). Of course, when you're shooting at a deer, you don't feel the kick anyway.

I voted for the 243. It will most likely be my next deer round. Highly underestimated IMO. Sierra makes a 85 gr hollow point that is bad medicine on any whitetail. I know several people that shoot this combo with great success. Federal loads the sierra bullet in a factory load.

Oh :!: She feels it kicks now that she shot it off a benchrest :rotflol:
Then she shot my NEF 243 Now I can handle that 8) I have a friend that has a 7-08 she's going to shoot in a few days.
bt58 The 243 is wicked  My nephew shot a 3 point a few days ago with a 95 gr Nosler ballistic tip I had loaded for my NEF and it totally ruined the far side shoulder the deer went about 10 yds

Well if she's feeling the kick now, tell her take the 45-70 and get a real kick out of it!!

I'd get her whichever one she has shot and likes. I happen to think that the best rifle for killing deer is the one you have the most confidence in and you really can't go wrong with any of the calibers you're looking at.
