Pistol for Deer

Postby jbullard1 » Thu Mar 01, 2007 6:06 pm

Any ideas on a handgun for deer hunting I'm leaning toward a single action with at least a 7 inch barrel.
It will have to shoot one of these bullets
.357 Mag
.410 S&W Mag
.452 Long Colt
The reason for these calibers is I have thousands of these bullets :D

jbullard1, I am buying a pistol barrel for my encore before next season. I think you should get an encore, that way you can buy barrels , stocks and forearms and have a pistol, rifle, and a shotgun. I am not sure what calibers you can get. I am leaning toward .308 but I'm sure you could get one of those.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

8) Well I've made up my mind Ruger Super Redhawk 7 1/2" barrel in 454 Casull 8)
If I cant handle the recoil of the 454 I can always shoot the 45 Long Colt in it

I'm going to print this pic put the model number and caliber on it write a short note to my wife that I'd like this for christmas and not say anything else to her about it. It will be under the tree Dec 25 2007 8)

PT Hunter... I'm gonna try and get a pistol barrel for my encore too. I'm leaning toward a 7mm08. They say its alot less recoil especially in a pistol. I also need a rifle barrel for it too. Can't decide on whether to get the same caliber or something different in each. Decisions decisions

You do know that there aren't in grizzly bears in MS, right?

Just kidding, nice choice. I've thought about buying a revolver of some sorts, just don't know which one to go with. I've also thought about getting a 1911 style .45. Sooooooo many choices sooooooooooooooooooo little money.

I saw a guy on one of the gun shows shoot the 454 Casull, looked like a heck of a kick to it. JB, that would be a very nice Christmas present.

ufg, I know what you mean, so many choices, so little money. I found a GP100 I liked and finally decided to buy it, went back and someone done beat me to it. Now I've had to buy a class ring for my son so there goes that money! Oh well, guess I'll start saving again.

I think I'm going to save up for a really nice gun safe. One that two people won't be able to carry out without a two wheeled dolly or something.

I've thought about getting rid of my Steyr 25-06 and buying another 30-06. I miss the 700 ADL that I sold to my dad. :?

a10acfan1, I am having a hard time deciding on a caliber. I shoot .270 with a rifle barrel right now. I love that caliber but think I might want something different. I have looked at .308 and 7mm08, both will do the job which makes deciding even harder. I am leaning toward the .308 just because I have a friend that reloads that caliber. I am a little partial but I would suggest .270 for a rifle barrel. With mine, I can connect the dots at 100 yards. I am gonna upgrade my scope this year and look for better ammo but I am satisfied with the .270.

well, yall should know that S&W has a .460XVR and it is one bad news handgun. A guy I shoot with has one and now mine is ordered, but I opted for the Performance Center 12" model. They are compensated and recoil is about the same as my Ruger Redhawk 44mag. Good thing about the 460S&W is it will shoot 3 calibers. 460 S&W, 454 Casull, & 45 LC.
45LC shoot like a 22 in it though. I will send pic when she arrives.

 Well I didnt get the Super Redhawk, I ran upon a deal I couldn't pass up for a S&W 686 plus, 7 shot, 6 inch barrel 357 mag for 350 bucks, shot less than 100 times. Maybe I can get the Big Gun for my birthday 8)

that will kill deer for sure. i have an older 686 w/4" and it is very accurate. handloads will make it unstoppable. i'm still waiting on my .460 S&W.
