Scope Decisions.

Postby gtk » Mon Feb 11, 2013 7:23 pm

I need to put a scope on my new 300 WSM.

I have two options.

1). A new buckmaster 3-9x40 with the BDC reticle or
2). A used Leupold Vari-x II 3-9x50

I took them both out at dusk, and honestly can't tell a huge difference. The 50mm may be a little crisper .

If I go with the 50mm I will have to order a new scope ring for it.

What do y'all think?

Im not finding much from searching about the differences between the older vari-x IIs versus the Nikon buckmasters.

Would not be hard for me to choose, the Nikon i think is a lot clearer scope....have never liked the Leupold.

VXII for the win !!!

I have two of those. best scope you can get for the money.
I have one on my 700bdl in .270 and one on my 7mm mag.

Mine is the Vari-X II.. .Not the VX-2 (which I thought I was trading for)

From what I read, the older Vari-X II is the same quality as the newer VX-I's.

Although not quite the same I have the Nikon Prostaff 3-9 BDC on my 45-70
Leupold VX-!! 3-9x50 on my .35 Whelen and Leupold VX-III 3 1/2-10 on my 30-06
The Nikon is my least favorite.
All are very good!

If you can't tell much of a difference at dusk, I'd go with the nikon since its new.

I think you should send them both to me and I will try them out for you for a year. This time next year I will return the one to you that I think you should use and take care of the disposal of the other one for you. All of this at NO CHARGE to you. PM me for my mailing address. :)
