Playing with the reloader

Postby gtk » Wed Feb 13, 2013 8:45 pm

Was bored tonight, so I drug out all my .243 hulls and deprimed/resized 221 hulls. About 150 Winchester and the rest federal, Remington , hornady

Guess I could have fun with the handi rifle. Anybody got any good shooting loads for 100 grain speer btsp's and either IMR 4064 or IMR 4350?

Honestly GTK, if someone did it probably wouldn't help you a whole lot. There are way too many variables involved to expect stellar performance from some other gun's "good load". But, it could happen of course. For what its worth, in my opinion you could pick a powder weight that is in the middle between the recommended starting and maximum loads and work up in half grain increments until you reach the accuracy levels you are looking for or the maximum powder charge. Try it with both powders. If you only neck size the brass for that Handi you probably have enough for a lifetime.

the only .243 I have is that handi-rifle, and no body uses it now. I just kept it because it was my sons first rifle, and i was hoping my daughter might decide to go with me agian one day and she could shoot it..

That resizer is fine. But, single shots and bolt guns can benefit from the use of a neck sizer.

The cool thing about reloading is picking something and seeing if it will work. If you pick a middle of the road load and take it out to the range it is going to make a satisfying BANG! and will probably hit right about where you aim.

Well, all ya need is a reloading kit, powder, bullets, primers, brass, and a manual

Read read and re-read the manual. I have read mine several times and still feel unprepared.

The best powder I found for mine was RL 15 but I am shooting 85grain TSXs. I will see if I got any info on what you need. I would recommend Federal GM210M primers on any load regardless.

I have had several folks say they like the RL 15.
