.223 Rem vs 5.56 Nato

Just what is the difference?
They interchange very well for me using 223 brass or 5.56 military brass.

I recently read that the 5.56 is just a bit bigger than the .223. What I read stated that while it is safe to fire the .223 in a gun chambered in 5.56, it is not safe to do it the other way due to unsafe pressure spikes. It seem like I read that from something someone posted on this forum a while back (link).

Well I have many 5.56 once fired Military brass that were fired in a Ruger Mini 14 223. I feel it is safe to reload and fire them.

Im sure folks have been doin it for a long time with no problems. I never would have know the difference if I hadn't read the article. I will try to find it and post it so you can read it for yourself if your interested. I don't know enough about it to try to pass on the info.

I think all the military ammo has crimped primers and the crimp has to be removed in order to re-load. :?:
