308 or 7mm08??

Postby a10acfan1 » Wed Jul 04, 2007 8:54 pm

I'm in the market for a centerfire barrel for my Encore. Seriously looking at either a .308 or 7mm08. Both have advantages over the other. The 7mm08 almost compares in ballistics to a .270 (which I have) but with fewer bullet weights, which is where the .308 has an advantage. What would your choice be and why?

depends on intentions. I would choose .308 due to size, distance, and knock-down. Snipers use it and ammo is aval nearly in any store. 08 on other hand has less recoil and is good to about 200yds. I have both, but prefer the .308 over 08. Better-Half shoots the 08 and she likes it better than the Model 7 in .308
.308 is my vote.

I vote for the .308. I have a .270, I am satisfied with it but I am thinking of buying a .308 barrel. I also shoot an Encore.

.308 would probably be my choice as well, unless I thought I may have some youngsters that might want to hunt with it as well..

Why the limit? The 7-08 will kill a deer at any distance the .308 will, and my personal longest with the .308 is 604 yards....There have also been several at 505, 525, and 464, to mention a few.I haven't kept up with the ones at less than 300, but its over 20 at least...I'm not starting an argument, just pointing out that the cartridge is usually more capable than the shooter.

600+ has to be coming out of a Rem M700 Sendaro with Bi-Pod topped with at least 4-16x50 leupold or maybe a Zeiss,or better yet Nikon Monarch Gold. wind less than 5 mph.
