New Black Powder Horn

Postby jbullard1 » Wed Jul 25, 2007 6:35 pm

This is my new powder horn for black powder. It was made by an avid BP hunter/ friend in South Africa

The horn is from a very large Blesbuck Ram. Very difficult to hunt, skittish animals that you find on the plains. Very good eye sight, and they run for no reason at all.

Both the plugs are from a piece of wild olive that came out the Kalahari Desert. A very hard and dense wood, even though it has a lighter colour. Can be polished to a very fine sheen.

Now that is very cool !! How did you happen to bud up with someone from South Africa?

One of my friends has a bow from South Africa, made by the local chief from one of the tribes there. My friends grandfather was over there on a mission trip and the chief gave it too him :)

Its a long story Kim "Hungryhuntergirl" invited me to another hunting site. He posted some pics of the horns he has made and one thing lead to another now I'm the proud owner of this masterpiece. Traveler is an avid blackpowder hunter building and shooting up to a #2 Bore BP rifle. He is also friends of another member here "Quigleysharps 4570".

Nice!

Jbullard, remind me, if you come to the scoring session, to bring you a couple boxes of .45-70 hulls. Seeing those on your reloading bench made me think of them :)

What are the silver hulls?
