Wanting to know from ttsx users about Barnes factory ammo in 708 120 gr.

I've been reading that they need speed to fully expand, so what would be the minimum fps and yardage for this factory load from a 708.
I'm sure 150 yards is no problem, I'm just curious.

I would rather run Barnes a little slower if anything. I think what they are writing is totally false as far as expansion goes. The TTSX begin expansion a little quicker than the TSXs but not much. They just have a higher BC than the TSXs. I have killed elk, mule deer and whitetail with them and I have yet to recover but 1 bullet that was lodged in an elk's hindquarter that I shot thru the neck head on facing me. I had a complete pass thru on a mule deer that was ranged at 720yds with a 300Mag only going about 3000fps with a 165g TTSX. We used to shoot a lot into a homemade bullet traps of phone books duct taped together and weigh the bullets before and after the shot and all retained weight within half a grain. Dont believe the speed thing about Barnes. I find it to be just the opposite even though I do run some pretty hot but that is just cause they shot better and not the need for speed.

That said I imagine it is carrying enough energy to kill and open up farther than most want to shoot. I think you can probably go on Barnes' website and see what kind of energy it is carrying at farther distances. Dont get caught up in FPS as much as energy.

Ok, I found a factory chart.
120 gr. Ttsx
708 = 3005 muzzle vel.
2069 vel. @ 400 yards.
1141 energy ftlbs @ 400 yards.
So with 1141 ftlbs it will fully expand ?
Thanks !

Oh, yeah. But I doubt you will recover the bullet to fully be certain. But I can promise the exit hole will be impressive :shock: I had a friend who punched a hole thru an elk at 250 yds with a 45-70 using Barnes. I suspect that a 45-70 at 250 is somewhere around 850lbs with a 300g bullet. And a much bigger bullet to punch thru also. You should be fine.

The difference in a 7-08 and a 280 REM are not that much if you are running Barnes. Especially in performance.
