Finally got a Black Rifle

Postby Bullie » Mon Jun 19, 2017 9:47 am

Like most of the stuff I get lately, I traded a boat motor for it. :D

Anyway, I bought a bucket of bullets from the Academy yesterday and ordered a Vortex Sparc AR for it last night. I am looking forward to running some rounds down the tube.

I am coming really late to this party. I fired an AR for the first time last fall. It was a lot of fun. This one belonged to one of my best friends. He had too many ARs and I had too many boat motors so we eased each other's pain. He had his brother build it for him awhile back and it has never been shot. I don't know the details of the gun other than what I can obviously read on the Lower and the barrel. And, I really have no idea if the barrel and Lower are the same manufacturer. The chamber is .223 Wylde so it should shoot .223 and .556 well. I am gonna order a magazine or two for it today maybe. I think 10 rds makes much more sense than 30 but maybe a 20? What do y'all think? It came with 1 30 rounder.

If you plan on hunting with it, the 10 round mag is plenty. If you want to go through that bucket of ammo fast get a few 30 rounders.
I'm sure you will enjoy shooting it. I have a few of them myself, 5.56, .223, 300 blackout, 25-45 Sharps and 6.5 Grendel.

If you are going to do any bench shooting the 10 round is much more accommodating.
Unless you have one of the newer lead sleads that have room for the 30 rounder. :W:

If you have the same problem I do, then your bullets tend to disappear, usually about the same time your son borrows the gun to go shoot...

they are fun.. When it cools off, you need to come down to the farm with us on one of our "shooting" days..

I never have, I just check the sales at Midway, and Cabelas for cheap bullets, I have used seconds with great success.

I have been checking those out. I will probably buy bullets but just curious. I haven't done much loading since backing out of deer hunting. Might have to clear the carb parts off the bench and dust off the presses.

unless you have a progressive reloader, i'd just buy cheap bullets to shoot.. i was going to load for my ar, but by the time i got through, it was much cheaper to buy the ones on sale..

i plan on reloading some for varmit/accuracy though, and hide them from the Kids..

One of my presses is a turret press. Kinda semi-progressive.

My optic came in yesterday. I got a Vortex Sparc AR for it. I think I will like it. I also put a folding forward grip on it. The quad rail forend is not the most comfortable grip ever. Not so bad with the handle though.

i put one of those cheapo quad rails on mine, then some little rubber thingies to soften it.. my brother has the expensive quadrail, which is slimmer and much more comfortable..

i ended up putting a little bipod that comes out of a forward grip, and like it a lot

I am getting sorta antsy to shoot it. But, I gotta spend my Saturday looking for a car for my daughter. A lady used the back of Weslie's car for brakes and Progressive insurance tore it up beyond repair. So, looking for cars... Not fun.
