Handi Rifle in 35 caliber

I was thinking of getting a handi rifle in 35 caliber for next year but I haven't heard much about anyone else shooting one? Is this a good round? What about the range of this caliber? I still have been using my mz's and have never switched to a handi rifle and thought this might be a better option than some of the heavier bullets, what do yall think?

I was thinking of getting one also just because of the ballistics. They have much better ballistics that the 45-70 or the 444. I have never shot one but hear that they got some kick to them.

are you sure the handi-rifle is made in the 35 whelen...i know they produced an elk foundation limited edition a few years ago, but i'm not sure they still do...a friend of mine has one in a t/c...its about like shooting a 30-06 with a BIG bullet..

I am 100% sure...that they DO NOT. The only "35 caliber" that H&R makes currently is 357Magnum (yes, the pistol cartridge). Lots of guys on Greybeard have rechambered them to "357 Maximum" (I think), but I don't know much about it.

35 whelen would be a tremendous handful in a handi-rifle, that's for sure.. 35 Remington would be a GREAT round in the Handi.

I don't know for sure either way. My local gunshop owner says H&R/NEF/MARLIN/REMINGTON is once again making a 35 whelen for their handi rifles. He said they are very scarce so far though.

Yeah, I noticed that. If you keep up with gun manufacturer websites very much, I think you'll see that almost all of them are behind. Some are way behind.

ammo will be the biggest problem to find unless you reload. 45/70 is the way to go and it can be loaded with lots of different bullet weights to do just about anything you will want. I thought the law specified .38 caliber or larger.

ivey, they drop the caliber to 35 and allowed T/C's this season. Next season will probably allow lever guns :W: .

I like my Buffalo Classic 45/70 , but am trying to get them to make a handi in .460 S&W Mag. (200 yarder for sure) I have emailed them and spoke to H&R about this and they only say we'll see.

Let's just make the law : single shot any caliber season to run from Oct. 1 thru Feb. 15 and take either sex. people will have nothing to complain about and we will have only one simple rule for us to follow on the weapon side.....
