Welcome dusty..

You can't go wrong with the remmington, thats for sure... Personally, I like the Browning ABolts, but they are a little on the expensive side.

Don't dismiss the savages either.. They have one of the best factory trigger's out there.

Not knowing what your budget is I'll take a guess that the Remington will do a good job for you.
I have 700 3006 that is close to 30 years old and, like me, has been rode hard and put up wet. After at least 1500 rounds through it still shoots 1" group at 100 yards
There are also several very good brands out there

which of the remmington's is called a "mountain" rifle? if I remember correctly, it was shorter/lighter..

have you considered the handi-rifle in 270? I love my son's .243.. its short & shoots sweet :)

I don't know if it's still made but the Remington Model 7 is a small gun but only shoots calibers of 243 / 308 length

I got a remington model 7 for my kids in 7mm08 and everything they've shot except 1 fell in its tracks. The other went about 30 -40 yds. :ylsuper:

the 7mm08 has a .284 bullet compared to the 243 that is .243
The 7mm08 is an excellent deer caliber with a mild recoil

:welcome: Welcome to the website Dusty, I would give the 7/08 a hard look, I have a browning Abolt (my go to gun) and a T/C encore prohunter barrel. The 7/08 shoot bout like a 308, but hits like a 243.

Go to http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/ballistics, then compare the 270 and the 7/08.

I have heard several bad experiences with the 260's.

8) Sound like you want a.270 and thats what you need to get. You'll never be really sure unless you do..... as far as dropping or losing deer shot placement is most important. Keep this in mind.....shorter rifle could give more muzzle blast.. ;) ;) ..and be lighter(more recoil). .270 bullet is smaller than 7mm(.284)bullet but has more velocity. Personally knockdown difference between the two may be almost identical favoring .270. To me the difference comes with theeasy handling (7mm08) of short action and the lack of recoil.....this equals more fun to shoot thus you may shot more....inabling u to be more comfortable when BIG BOY walks out. Sorry bout being longwinded..hope u enjoy your .270. :welcome: :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

In a rifle like a Remington 700, Browning A Bolt or Ruger 77 in 270, 308 7mm 08 or other non magnum calibers you will not see a noticeable difference in recoil. The difference is in muzzleblast.
A 130 gr bullet from any 7 pound gun traveling @ 3000 fps mv will generate the same recoil

take a look at the HOWA. made in Weathersby factory just different name.
there is no talking you out of a .270 , so I won't try, there are much better calibers out there. recoil is not felt when adrenaline flow is high, therefore a .223 will feel the same as a 7mm mag if your adrenaline is flowing at the point of squeezing off a round at a deer. knock-down or dropping in tracks is way over-rated, but shot placement is where it is at. aim small.
Good luck in your search.

first off is the $$$$$$ you want to spend. then you can narrow the search.
Don't skip on the Howa during your search though. people who have them usually have more than one from what research i've done.
The one Gator mentioned is nice. Most people buy for name and not necessarily for quality. I have friend that won't have nothing but Browning and others who only buy Remington. heck, you can get a Mossberg for around $ 300 with scope and yes it will kill deer, but its not a "tack driver"
It sound to me like your choice is going to be about the money though.
$400 and under there are limited choices. expand upwards to $600 and choices are endless.
Key Note: put a quality scope on it or it will be just another ole rifle that you might hit or might not with.
