my brother has a remmington, and its a real sweet shooting gun... if I didn't have a .270, i'd seriously consider it...

Have one for fiance and I like it for weight and light recoil. ballistics are good too. Plenty for hunting whitetails.

7mm 08

I have a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle DM in this caliber and man is it a sweet shooting gun. Ballistics are very similar to the 270.

I just found this site and noticed several folks that I had seen before on msdeer.com. What happened to that place? Nobody is on there anymore.

BTW, great site.

How does the 7mm-08 compare to the 260 remington?

With the 7mm 08 you get over 100 ft/sec velocity and 200 ft-lbs of energy more than the 260.

Sounds like the 7m-08 is about the same as the 280

280 is much better round and more versitile if reloaded.

The thing that the 7mm-08 has over the .280 is the fact that it is short action. This allows you to have a more compact gun and easier handling gun.

I love this caliber. I am actually on my second one. It is a Browning A-bolt micro hunter. I shoot it and, my 11 year old daughter handles it pretty well too. I decided a long time ago that it was not a requirement to have a sore shoulder to be a deer hunter.
Score one for the little guy!

Right on teacher, I agree. I got friends that think they have to have the biggest, most powerful gun to hunt with. They want knock down power that will reach out there and get 'em at a distance. I kinda compare it to golf, when I played years ago. I had an old set of cheap clubs I got at a discount golf store that I played with. Several of my friend went out and bought custom fitted Ping clubs to play with. They couldn't hit the ball any better than me and couldn't score as well most of the time. I compare guns/bows with those old golf clubs. I may have inferior equipment compared to some folks, but I know how to use it, I practice with it, and use some of my natural ability to hunt/shoot and I'm gonna be OK. Buying the biggest most powerful & expensive gun/bow on the market ain't gonna guarantee you kill a deer. Just my opinion.

I shoot a 7mm-08 I LOVE IT!!!

Used to shoot a 30-6, but wasn't as steady as I would want to be. Wouldn't want anything else to hunt with.
