What do yall classify as a trophy in your opinion? point, beam, age , width, mass, or size in general. I would like to know different perspectives. :?:

Good Question, and probably as many answers as individuals.

Personally, a trophy to me is a mature deer, preferably as large or larger than anything I have on the wall.

But, if I ever take a deer with a bow (haven't yet), it will be a trophy to me :)

To answer you question more specifically,

Point: 10 or >
Beam: 20" +
Age: 3+ years
Width: 18" +
Mass: 4" +

Or I'd love to take a wild looking Non-Typical

mass is usually the first thing I look at followed by width. But, like mentioned by gtk, definitely anything bigger than I have on the wall.

Well, to me it could be a big doe I took with my bow,or one of the smaller bucks that I have taken with my bow.I guess it could be one or all of the deer I have taken. Its not all in the rack to me,but more so the hunt.I love to hunt with the bow over the gun but I think a trophy is what ever you want it to be. :)

I agree with nobucks it's the hunt.....what it takes to get within shooting range of a mature deer. As far as a true trophy buck, In my opinion mass is the defining characteristic.

I'm with nobucks. A trophy is whatever you want it to be. However, there are International measuring standards which include weight, volume, beam, length, points etc. I am trying to find the criteria of the Consiel International de la Chasse. When I find it, I will post same.

Man, I never thought I would get sane answers like that. Maybe hunters do think a trophy is in the eye of the beholder. I am glad to see that.
Now, wishfully mine would be:
12pt (10 up & 2 drops)
24'' wide
28" mainbeams
8" bases carried out heavy

Boy, thats wishful isn't it. :!:
