Here's the link to the MDWFP's website and what the seasons are supposed to be. I don't think that they are set in stone yet though.

i hope it goes thru for the south-MS hunters sake. I've often heard, the rut doesn't get kicked off good until deer season is just about over.

It will be interesting to see if there are a lot more mature bucks killed during the new season.

I do believe that it will help them see more mature bucks....the only complaints that I have heard have been from bowhunting only hunters who don't want to lose two weeks of their exclusive bow hunting time.

I can understand the bowhunters point of view, but you cant make everyone happy all the time. I imagine the vast majority of southern hunters will be happy with the later season.

I've always hunted beginning October 1 (Greene County), but I have to admit....I'll give that up gladly for Feb. I do not see much rutting activity until mid January some years. Man,,,,,I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope it will help you out ghc....I'm living in the best in both worlds, I'll be at home for Christmas during the rut in Hinds county and then back at school in South MS for the rut down there. :D

that is getting the best of both worlds bt58 :)

Do you see a significant difference in the rutting activity, between the jackson area & hattisburg ?

I haven't hunted enough down in the Hattiesburg area late in the season to notice. I've done a little early season hunting down there, but I usually come home and hunt the last couple of weekends of the season.
