My wife's mule deer

Postby dublelung » Sun Oct 30, 2016 8:21 pm

My wife and I just returned from our trip to South Dakota. Ever since she shot her 4x4 last year, she's had her mind set on getting a 5x5. I tagged out the first hour of the first day so I had plenty of time to try and locate her one before she flew in on my 3rd day. We saw some nice bucks and a very nice 4x3 but she didn't want any part of it. It was a 5x5 or bust. We finally spotted a couple bucks she was content to shoot but they put the whoodini on us before we could get in range. We got settled in early the next morning and began glassing the draws. I spotted a few distant deer and was attempting point them out to her when she said, " there's a shooter and I'm about to bust his butt!" I was looking far and wide to see the deer she had spotted, I had the spotting scope focused on a creek bottom about 500 yards away and was scanning it back and forth before I finally spotted him standing 126 yards away looking straight at us. After a 2-3 minute stare down he looked back behind him and gave my wife enough time to move her Bog pod over and get the rifle steady. He walked behind a roll in the terrain and we could only see the tip of his tines as he walked to the left. She got on the opening in front of him and as soon as he hit it, I stopped him and she made a perfect shot with the Rem 300 Ultra Mag. She filled the doe tag the next evening with a 286 yard straight on chest shot. :-) I'll be her spotter and guide anyday!
