According to QMDA site, the 2015-16 season 77 percent of bucks killed were 3½ years old or older.

i wonder where they get the data from since we don't have tagging ?

That is interesting, as far as I know there is no official data collected from hunters state wide. Unless they ask taxidermist, but even that data would be inaccurate.

I wonder if the info is coming from those who requested biologists to manage their property? Still, that would be inaccurate.

That is crazy. Probably 75% of bucks killed are 1.5-2.5 years old.

I have never drank the QDMA Kool-Aid . Some of their biological advice/findings/recomendations just defy pure logic. They never have been able to differ between genetics and genetic traits, ha.

Around here most of the big timber companies and some land owners require you collect the jaw bone and record the weight from every deer killed. I imagine between those and all of the DMAP properties they get a lot of information. However, most of these places are where the guys who are into the horn porn hunt. You can probably reverse those numbers for the rest of us.

I would think that the majority of bucks are younger, and I also imagine that those are the ones not reported and no data collected on.

I figure that they getting there information from the WMA's and the clubs that are on the QDMA.
I once belonged to a ciub that collected the jaw bones from every deer killed buck and doe and as far as I know they still do.

I guess I wasn't really thinking about what I was reading. I doubt the article (didn't read it) actually says that Mississippi as a whole is killing 3.5 y/o bucks. Most likely they are referring to the QDMA properties that report to them. That is believable.
