Hunt of a lifetime...

Postby chadbragg » Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:00 pm

One of my best friends had an accident a few years ago and lost most of the use of his right hand as well as a broken back. The last few years he hasnt had much luck getting on deer.
This season especially he's had no luck, several on camera but they are bad nocturnal. I told him a few weeks ago if he would give me a few days around December 1st I would get him on a good buck. Of course he didn't think it would happen because of his "bad luck".
This morning we were sitting in the shooting house together and he said he had never seen deer in the rain, 5min later a yearling doe came out. Then 30min later another doe fed across the food plot. At about 9:45 I was about to start packing everything up and a mature doe came into the plot. She was very nervous and kept looking into the cow pasture to the north. She spooked and ran into the cutover to the south. About 15min later she came running out and followed by a huge buck. We got the rifle out the window of the shooting house and I assisted him getting the safety off and stopped the buck in a shooting lane. He wasn't able to get on him for the shot and he broke and ran again. I stopped him a 2nd time, this time he was on him and fired. At the shot he mule kicked and ran. I got the gun but was so shook up that I missed him. Luckily he stopped just before leaving the property and I was able to get one more in him. He ran 15yds and piled up. Soon after the 3rd shot a 2nd smaller came out and picked up the does trail. We were both so shook up we couldn't even talk. This deer was on camera last year often but hasn't showed up since. Actually not a single mature buck has been on camera on this small tract. We located him and had zero ground tax and realized he had been previously shot! He got his largest buck to date and I couldn't have been more pleased to have been there with him.

I can only imagine the heartbreak the other hunter that lost that deer felt! But the joy it put into his life can't be replaced. His wife even text me to thank me, she hasn't seen him smile like that in a long time! ImageImageImage

Congrats to your friend. Fine deer. That looks like one of those Rage Broadheads hole in the shoulder or possible ballistic tip I guess. Why I dont shoot either.

No that was Jlawson80. Who is now a very active member. He was working on his roof and fell.

No I believe it was either a glancing shot or an archery wound.

Checked my camera and he showed back up a couple days ago. ImageImage

My guess was small fixed blade in low poundage bow.
