Where are the deer?

Only saw 6 antlerless this morning and maybe 2 on the round trip to Raymond and back to tend to Momma. It’s quiet too.

I saw one lone mature doe this evening. Was surprised nothing was behind her.

Well I am glad to know we aren't alone. Hunting 4,separate properties, six people, and none of us have seen so much as a glimpse of a deer in over a week. We have hunted different hours, sat for hours, nothing..... It's strange.

Just got a picture of a nice size buck, with small rack. Persistence pays off.

Hunted this morning and it was a ghost town. Think my deer are on lockdown. I remember hunting Mississippi and deer would be on existence around the 10th, or for a week. Then everything bust lose.

My theory is we never see a first rut with the ratio of doe to bucks. After the first breeding, that’s when we see action. Same here in NE Louisiana. Around Christmas is when it gets good.

Where are the deer?

Postby missed mallards » Sun Dec 16, 2018 3:40 pm

Road hunters have resorted to pouring corn out down the gravel roads where I hunt! That’s no joke!

Have not seen the first deer while on stand. Didn’t get to hunt much at all last week. Been moving and seeing deer. A good pair of binoculars and a quiet step has proven to help the odds of seeing deer.

Only jumped one doe with a buck. Buck ran within 5 feet of my truck. My Neighbor called to inform me that he was watching a nice buck leave our place and just wanted me to know. He was wondering if I had them trained to load themselves up! Ended the day bumping 9 total. No bucks were harmed during my hike.

A ton of midday movement per the camera.
no buck on camera has been on camera more than once. My deer r nomadic and looking at the last 3 years the trend continues. Got to be there when they r and get lucky. Wish I’d of been there the 13th lol.
Looking back I was!
Just picked the wrong stand!

Well we have a few Sundays with no night services or activities, so I’m in the stand now. Jumped a doe easing in to it. I just feel like they are going to get moving now that things are clearing. Bucks have to work those scrapes.

Update on this evenings hunt. Seen a yogi way off. Then 4 does and 4 young bucks....mostly spikes. Supposed to be foggy in the morning. Might try some ducks.

we left colorado at 6:00 the other morn, and drove all the way to MS, arriving at 1:15 the next morn. I did not see ONE single whitetail the entire trip thru kansas, Missouri, arkansas, tn, or missippi ! We saw elk mule deer, and antelope but not one single whitetail

Yep.. We wanted to try the I-70 route, then went south through MO.. All routes were withing 30 min's of each other according to mapquest.. Wouldn't know if the MO route was scenic or not, because it was DARK . I do know that from Mamoth Springs Arkansas to about Jonesboro , there are not any open gas stations past 9:00 !

When are you headed back? Looks like some really bad snow and blizzards heading that way. Be safe, or wait until it passes.
