Christmas Eve buck!

Postby chadbragg » Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:03 pm

I decided to hunt this morning where I killed the 7pt Saturday morning. At 7:55 this buck came out into the flat I was hunting. He needed 2 more steps but turned and ran back the way he came from but stopped I'm a small opening and I shot for the shoulder. I heard the bullet hit and he dropped at the shot. Then I saw the doe he was with and another mature buck ran. I gathered my things up and went to check the deer out he was gone! No blood, hair, or anything. Apparently he got up and ran! I thought he was the buck I saw so I started checking the way they went, but couldn't find any sign. I started making small circles and happened to find marks where he was slipping as he ran. And finally found a little blood. Very little! I could figure out which way he went and eventually gave up. I knowing it was a good buck I made a post in a blood trail group and immediately got a call from a local handeler. It took his lab a little while to sort the trail out but we ended up finding him still alive at 1:40. The handeler finished him off with his 9mm! To say happy doesnt describe my feelings! This is the deer I have hunted 2yrs! ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Awesome deer and congrats. You may need to buy a freezer.

I’m still holding on to my six tags this year. Headed up tonight.

Congrats, glad you found him. A dog really helps. I am training my younger one to trail now. She is a lot easier to handle than my male, ha.
