Shed Antlers

Postby ML » Thu Feb 10, 2005 9:03 pm

Anybody found any sheds yet? I would think it is a little early for this area, but a friend of mine shot an 8pt. with his smoke pole at the end of Jan. and when he found it the antlers were gone! He found the left side about 15 yards away and the right side about 25 yards away!

Hi ML, and welcome to the site.

I've found a few sheds, but mostly by accident. I have never really gone out looking for them.

I heard also, around the last week of season, someone shooting a deer and then when they grabbed it by the horns, the horns came off in their hands .

Where do you hunt around oxford ?

gtk, I'm in a club up on hwy. 310 between here and holly springs... fair deer hunting and loaded with turkey! I'm also in a club here in oxford, it's off of woodson ridge road. I hunt turkey on the nat'l forest and on my clubs. I go with buddies as a guest on their clubs a couple of times a year. What about you?

I hunt in DeSoto County, near the Marshall county line. Not too many deer, but I have taken some nice ones off our property.

As for turkeys, I see one every once in a blue moon on our place, but not often enough to be able to hunt them. I used to love to turkey hunt when I went to Delta state. I'd hunt malmasion all the time.

I hunt at between #4 and 310. Between Laws Hill and Tyro. Like you said, lots of Turkeys. We've been on a buck program for some years now and are starting to see it pay off. How long have you lived in Oxford? I have a couple of friends that grew up there. We all graduated in 96, 97.

bwm, I used to live in Olive Branch, but moved to Oxford about 5 years ago. I've got some buddies in my huntin' club that are from up around Independence. Do you know Robert, Joe, and Marty Alexander?

I went out looking for sheds a couple times earlier this spring and never found any. But I found one last Friday while turkey hunting. It was the left side from an 8 pt., probably a 1-1/2 year old buck I'd guess.
