Squeaky Cam

Postby Rube » Thu Oct 02, 2008 4:58 pm

The top cam on my bow (an older Martin Speed Flite) is squeaking when I come to full draw. What can I do to fix the squeak? It just started this afternoon and of course, I am going to the woods tomorrow afternoon. Any suggestions will be much appreciated......

If it is the axle, a drop of gun oil. A drop will not be smelt by a deer don't worry.

i agree, a little lube should fix that problem.

after this season i would take the bow to a shop and have them do a complete tune up on it. if the cams are noisy i would bet that the limb pockets are in need of a good oiling too.

OK, lets see, you are on team 3, the only way to fix your bow is spray it with wd-40, lots and lots of it, you might even want to keep a can with you in the stand and spray it when you see deer, that way it won't make a sound if you get a shot. Or you could soak it in diesel fuel the night before you hunt, the oil in the fuel will make it alot quieter. Seriously, I know a guy that had that problem, he put a couple drops of vegetable oil on his so it wouldn't have the petroleum smell.

You may try a little graphite powder as well ..

Thanks for the advice, guys....I actually ended up using a little reel oil and it worked fine. No more squeak....No more smell by the weekend either. I put one of those little scent wafer discs for HS Scents in the fresh earth variety and it makes my bow and arrows smell like freshly turned earth.....yummy!
