Noisy bow

Postby BIGERN76 » Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:27 pm

I just changed the mods on my 09 Black Ice to shorten my draw length 1". The bow was super quiet before and now it has a very audible "twang" when I hit the release. Any ideas what would cause this just from a draw length adjustment? Also, I have only been bow huntin for 2 years and was using an old hand me down so I honestly don't know much about bows. And this is my first new bow. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ernie

This may be a simple check, but it happened to me once - anything loose that should be tight?

when you changed the modules, did the timming change? I take it you do not have string wiskers or string silencers on the bow string?

I checked everything for loosness before I ever shot the bow after making the mod swap. I don't know about the timing or how to check that but I do have silencers on the limbs and strings. The bow shoots great, just noisy now.

Just gotta look at the bow on the diamond website, did you measure the brace height before and after adjusting draw length? I would tinker with that string stop by MARKING and THEN moving away then toward the riser. If the string is twanging when the arrow leaves the string on release, then it will do it when you pluck the string (like a guitar string). Check your manual, that cam looks to have two set screws or draw stops on it, betting one of them is the timming.
I have a MQ1 that was more twangy than a guitar, i piddled, twiddled, tinkered, done and undone several things to it and FINALLY got it to shooting the best and quitest with it ahead on the timing marks on the cam.

Could be a number of things....If you changed mods, the tiller is no doubt out of synch. That affects the timing, but timing is very easy to correct in a single cam like the black ice. Your brace height also changed. And did you re-adjust the draw stop?

All of these things kinda have a snowball effect when you change something up....

Man I am lost. I did adjust the draw stop and it feels perfect. I don't have a string stop so that isn't it. And I don't have a clue what the other stuff is yall are talking about. Guess I'm gonna have to take it to someone. I can shoot em ok but I just don't have any experience workin on them and I really don't want to run the risk of messin up a new bow. :?

IFIN you don't have a string stop, iti is well worth the investment. Just be sure to have the string served wherethe stop will meet the string. As for the draw length adjustment and the timing, the manual should have a chart that tells you where to move the drawstop/timing stop in relationship to each draw length module. A bow, i have learned from much tinkering, involves a WHOLE lot of ying/yang. If there is a twang, your missing ying or yang, only tinker will tell which :W: .

YOU could call Bowtech/Diamond and talk to a tech, they will gladly help you IF you can ever get to one. I talked to one when I ordered two pairs of mods for my 08 101st Airborne, although i did have the owners manual, he did answer any questions that I had.

Took my bow to Stans today and he fixed me up. He gave me brand new string stop and did a little tweaking and got her to quiet down. Thanks for the one you sent me ol bumpy, I will get it back to you as soon as I can.

What all did he do to it, OBTW mark the cam with a pencil so you can find string strech or out of time.

I think he readjusted the draw stop in addition to adding the string stop. He also suggested adding a cat whisker style string silencer.

Just hang on to it BIGERN....You might have a use for it one day. I've only got 8 or 10 of those things stockpiled, so I'm good on string stops for a while.

Glad Stan got you fixed up. I've heard he's a good bow man.
