I have been six or seven times so far, but I have nothing to show yet. I have heard birds most every time that I have been, but due to various rookie mistakes I haven't had one in gun range yet. Went this morning but didn't even hear a single turkey. Still looking for that elusive first bird.......

Well, keep trying. I got lucky & killed a turkey the first time I ever went hunting... Took a long time to kill another though. Now, I dont even get to go anymore...

I've been scouting several times and have seen a lot of birds. I have two permits, for 3rd and 5th seasons here in Illinois. The 3rd season starts April 22 so I'll get after them a week from Friday.

I got one last Friday, have another permit for 5th season May 5-12 so I'll try for another one then. Hope everyone else is having a good season.

congrats on the turkey, rod. I stated before, on another post, that we dont have any turkeys on our place in DeSoto county. Last week, on 4 different trips to the farm, I saw a single turkey each time
Maybe, they will settle in on our place and I can hunt them, hopefully before too many subdivisions build up around the place.

Thanks guys. The one I got last week was a pretty good sized jake. Our weather was lousy and I didn't have much time to hunt so I took the first legal bird I could. I'm holding out for a good one next week with my other tag.

Well I think that I'm gonna lean the ol' 870 back in the gun cabinet and pick up a rod and reel in the morning. Time for me to do a little fishing...turkey hunting and school have kept me off of the water all spring. Good Luck to all the MS hunters on their last weekend.
