got one this afternoon. not too terribly big. 8.5" beard...1" spurs. Darnest thing. I called him up to my right....he was about a foot from me, but there was a log between me and him. The log was about 6" off the ground. So...in order to save a shell...I reached under the log and grabbed him by the legs and attempted to pull him under where I could ring his neck. Well, due to how big his body was....he wouldn't fit under the log. So I let him go and called him up to my left side where I decided just to shoot him. :D :D :D

O.K....not all of the story is true....the part about shooting him is though. :D

Yeah, you might want to leave the part about grabbing him out when you tell it. Congrats

Well glad to someone is having some luck.

I seen some this morning, but they seen me at the same time.

It was windy as heck and I still haven't heard a gobble this year.

Had a very active morning yesterday. Started out on one bird who gobbled on the roost but went silent not long after( i figured he was henned up). Eventually heard another bird gobble an hour or so later. And he was gobbling like crazy, he would cut me off before i could finish most of my calls. Finally got set up closer to him, he came up in full strut, decided he was gonna try and come around from behind me and he got to my left and well that was as far as he made it. He was a good bird, 10 1/2 inch beard , both spurs at 1'', weighed about 18lbs.

congrats russ!!

i got to go sat. morning. i heard 2 gobble. the birds were together like they've been for the last 2 years. i got setup on them and clucked a couple times very softly. all of a sudden a hen about 40 yards from me started cuttin and they gobbled. she took off at a dead run to them. the rest of my morning was pretty much the same. all and all i saw about 20 hens and 3 longbeards. the 3 gobblers that i saw were at 50 yards or so and i decided not to shoot at them because they were stacked in pretty tight with hens and i didn't want to kill a hen on federal land

the gobblers were struting in a cut over and looked to be about 8-9" in the beard. couldn't tell much else about them.

going in the morning to see if i can finish on one of them
