Turkey weight

Postby smuckers » Wed Mar 27, 2013 6:23 pm

I've been hunting several years. I killed a lot of turkeys. The biggest one i've ever killed weighed 18.50 lbs. I see people killing them 20 to 23 pounds a lot. Is it because I'm hunting woods turkeys. Maybe they get bigger in fields.

I haven't killed many but have killed this one 22.2, came from here in Alcorn county. We've got a few bean fields around here.

Good question. Could you be killing younger birds?

Turkey are kind of like deer chasing...in the spring they are strutting around trying to get the girls attention while the hens are out eating.....a gobbler will weight more in March then he will say the third week of April.

Biggest one I've ever killed was around 21.5 lbs and he was a fat 2 yr old. The majority of mine weigh 16-18 lbs
