What choke for turkey?

Postby BIGERN76 » Wed Feb 04, 2009 6:24 pm

I got my new shotgun yesterday (Mossberg 500) and it came with 3 choke tubes. Improved, modified and full. I hear that I need to get a different choke for turkey huntin. What would be a good one to get???

pattern your full tube to see what it does at 40 yds. if you are not satisfied, go online.. check out the top manufacture's website (see what basspro sells), and see what they recommend for the shot size you want to shoot. i prefer 5's, but that's personal preference... go with what they say ...i've got a kicks on a browning gold 3 1/2, and have killed turkeys door knob dead, at 70 yards in fields... most are going to say try until you find what you like, but that can get expensive at $50 a tube.. get a real turkey tube that is recommended for your gun/ shot , and you should kill any gobbler out to 50 yards..

I had a Mossberg 835 that I hunted with for years. I had the best luck with a Hastings .690 with Federal Premium #4 and Winchester High Velocity #5. Currently shoot a Remington 11-87 with Jellyhead choke and Nitro's 4x5x7 - Good luck ;)
