OH MY GOODNESS!!

Postby jbullard1 » Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:11 am

I dont know if you remember But I had not hunted in about 10 years until this past fall. That means all my equipment is old. My Turkey gun was an Ithica 12 ga pump thats been in the family since the 50s. I decided to get me one of the mossberg 835 3 1/2 UtiliMag :D Well picked it up last night and some shells.Went out a few minutes ago to check the pattern started with a few 2 3/4 heavy load shells every thing just fine pattern looked good  Moved up to the 3 1/2 shell set up target at 30 yards sat down took carefull aim and OH MY GOODNESS this thing KICKS  But it put 197 pellets in a 8 1/2 x 11 target and 37 in the kill zone on the target tried 1 more shot at 40 very good results on target but shoulder and right cheek bruised ENOUGH TARGET PRACTICE :!: The next shot will be at a turkey or coyote! Man this thing KICKS

Yup, they do kick. You may want to try a limbsaver recoil pad.

I bought the Benelli Nova and the recoil reducer just because of the recoil of those 3 1/2" shells. It doesn't kick much harder than a heavy load 2 3/4" steel shot now.

Yeah, I have an 835 too. It does pattern very well but kicks like a mule.

I think that I'm gonna stick with my 3", it throws a good pattern and don't have to be punished as bad.

Any thing that mean needs a professional name so here it is "Kickamus Likka Muleus" :) I have a hunt planned for late april in arkansas and when I come back thru Batesville Ar It will be left at Anderson Custom Shotguns for an attitude adjustment. They cant do much for the recoil but that sloppy 6 pound trigger pull has got to go :!:
