i hunted in mississippi all this past weekend and where i normally hunt (there's normally tons of turkeys) i saw 2 tracks. no one has seen a turkey in a month. it's the same story all over south ms. i don't know if katrina (that evil b#!@$) screwed them all up or if there is some sort of disease at work in the south ms. area.

how's everyone else making out? are you guys seeing any birds?

It has been hit or miss for most folks down here. I do know one guy who has limited out already hunting Jones and Jasper Counties. I know several others who have killed one, but even the little things like getting set up on a bird that you know is there can be tough with all the down trees.

yea i know what you mean. after covington county didn't produce my dad and i went to camp shelby and if you could find a place where the loggers weren't cuttin; you couldn't get into the woods for all the trees being down. it sure is a tough situation. i plan on going home for easter and i'm not even taking my gun. i'll bring a fishing pole instead.

good luck to all of you hunting these areas that katrina took a crap on.

congrats lugnut! That's a great bird.....his spurs tell me that he ain't exactly a yungun. I'm guessing 4 - 4 1/2.....anybody else?

looking at the charts from the NWTF; he is at least 4 yr. old. i can't find anything that tells you how to age a turkey above 4 years of age. everything that i read goes to 10+in beard and 1+in spurs is 4yr or older. i guess no one really knows how fast a turkeys spurs grow ones there on up in age.

i'm with you though; he's surely no spring chicken....or ......turkey
