10-5 back still hurting. Hoping I can get in the woods soon! I set new lockon last week and it looks like it's going to be a super doe spot.

10-7 AM My back is finally feeling good enough to get out and hunt. I'm hunting new locon I set last week. My 1st hunt in this area. Seen 2 does in the hay field and 1 in bean field while driving in on the ranger and spooked one while walking in. Looks like I'm going to have to rethink my approach to this area. It's 7:40 and I've not seen a deer yet while in the stand. Wind is swirling bad in this bottom. No deer showed up this morning. I hunted until 9:30. Going to hunt a buddies land tomorrow.

10-8 AM hunting a buddies property. I'm hunting his "main stand". There are a few oak trees that were left in 8yo cutover. Several trails merge here. Last year I killed a doe out of this same stand.
Temp is 55• and 5-10mph SE winds. Deer sign all around here. Got high hopes of seeing something. I ended up seeing the legs of a deer. It walked through the thicket in front of me at about 30yds. It looked to be a big deer but no shot. Will try again tomorrow evening.

10-9 pm hunt. This is my 1st pm hunt of the season. I bought a thermacell and tried to hunt in the "swamp" but the skeeters were just to bad(thermacell is going back tomorrow). Anyways settled into a lockon beside creek. Wind is blowing and swirling pretty bad 15mph ESE temp is app 78•. Well the hunt ended with no deer sightings. Right at dark there was one that blew several times. It was up wind and prolly 150yds or so. It's hard for me to believe she was blowing at me, but who knows. Checked trail cam on creek crossing, only had 34 pics in 4 days... Not good.....

10-10 AM I'm settled in on a whiteoak ridge in my treelounge. Had a coon walk under me while it was still dark. It really had the heart pumping for a few minutes! Going to sit back and see what I see!
Well the hunt ended without seeing a deer. It looks like this is going to be a tough season for me. It may be nov or early dec before the deer start moving through our property.

10-11 AM I'm hunting the same stand (behind barn) I hunted opening morning. It's the only stand I've seen deer that I could have actually shot. It's 55• with a very light NNE wind. I've been waiting on the N wind to hunt my main spots. I have cameras set up and ready, just hope a deer comes to the show!
Well this hunt was looking good. Had a large body lone deer here on the ridge eating acorns at 30yds, was still to dark for shot. But the neighboring land hunter drove his 4wheeler in. it really didn't spook, but turned and went back the way it came. He was going in at 6:45 and drove his atv to within 100' of his stand form the sound of it. I know he won't hunt over 1.5-2hrs so I get to look forward to him coming out! ARGGGGG!

10/15 AM 46• NNW winds at 0-5 I'm hunting the back side of hardwood ridge. I have Oakes in front of me with a big bedding area on the other side of the oaks, bean field to right and behind me, and to the left is a huge hay field with a off limits (right behind land owners house) bedding area(which always holds deer) on the other side of hay field. I am exactally 50yds off of bean field, 60yds off of hay field and have a major trail 25yds in front of me with a small pond at the base of my tree. I'm sitting back hoping something comes through.
No deer showed this period. I pulled memory card out of cam and good buck was in the area for about an hr before I got there. He was there at 5:37 and I figure I walked in around 5:45.

10/16 AM 46• winds SSW at 0-5. I'm hunting land where I arrowed the 8pt in dec. I'm hunting out of ground blind. Below you can see the results of my 1 and only bow hunt out of here as well as the view of the oak bottom I'm hunting.
Has been quiet, but now squirrels, crows, wood pecker, and neighboring dogs are sounding off. I love being in the woods!
Well I have officially made my last bow hunt out of my ground blind. At 9:00 I had a nice plump last years doe feed on acorns in front of me. She came to within 30yds then spooked and ran towards me and stopped less than 10yds from me. She was in range for almost 15min but never had a shot. If I would have taken the treelounge in I have no doubt I could have got her. Atleast I had an encounter, that's a start.

10-17 AM 52• winds SWIRLING bad. Set up on oak ridge 30yds off standing soybean field. It's sorta a pinch point with 2 major trails intersecting as well as a major trail along edge of beans. Many crows and squirrels have been around as well as a buck at 1st light. I couldn't identify what it was until it was out of range. I plan to hunt about another half hr then will head out.

10/19 AM 46• winds 10-20 WNW hunting same tree as hunt 10/15. Walked in just after 5 with hopes that the cloudy dark night would hold deer movement up a lil. At 5:50 I had a deer completely up wind start blowing then minutes later an ambulance on the highway had the coyotes howling. No deer have fed through the ridge to my knowledge yet.

10/19 PM 50• winds WNW at 10-20 I hunted my bottom plot stand. The hogs have completely taken it over, I pulled memory card earlier and had 659 pics this last week. I was in 4 of them and deer were in 3 of them. I could hear them grunting and squealing in the bottom but never came out on plot.

10/21 AM 32• winds light and variable(swirling) I'm hunting my behind the barn stand. Had 3 does come through at 7:05 and a few hens fed through the bottom just below me. We are beginning to get some great colors here in Alcorn county...

10-21 PM 55• winds 5-10 NW I hunted the bottom plot (hog plot) hot on stand at app 3:30 and wind was perfect. At 5:15 a large hog crossed the plot about 100yds away. At 6:10 I saw movement in the upper end of the plot and quickly realized it was a buck. 3 bucks began to feed towards me in the peas but they stopped and stared towards the bottom. I realized as soon as they spooked and ran it was hogs. I situated my camera and got ready for the shot. Several grown hogs and numerous piglets came in. They got to within 30 yds and I had a good broad side shot so I let it fly. The rage hit her behind the right shoulder and exited the opposite. I could see the arrow hanging out as she ran off. I waited until after dark as I could still hear them running and snorting in the bottom. When I got down I found where she was at the time of the shot and reviewed the footage to see exactally which way she ran. Well 10yds into the thicket I found the arrow and blood. The hogs(piglets I'm sure) were running around in the bottom so after going app another 20yds I decided to leave it. Will have sidearm of some sort next time.

10/22 AM 32• winds NE but supposed to switch to SE at 5-10 I'm hunting the lockon in the bottom. It's set up on some chestnut oaks inbetween a thicket and soybeans. Should be a great morning....
At 7:15 I had a small doe feed on the acorns headed towards me. She was up wind and got to within 7yds not offering a shot. She spooked and ran out to 45 yds and turned around. She was quartering away hard so the arrow struck just in front of the right rear flank and exited the left front shoulder. She ran about 75yds. I got to use my lab to trail her up. Was a great morning.

10/29 AM. 32• winds NNW 0-5 I'm hunting the barn stand. Have seen deer on every hunt here but not connected yet here. The weather has gotten cool and should be a good morning to issue a drain hole or 2.
At 8:05 had app 5 does come out of pines. They stopped in the firebreak and my grand mother (I'm hunting RIGHT behind her house) came out to feed her cats and was yelling here kitty kitty kitty. Well they didn't hang around.
