11/22/08 am hunt copiah

22 dgrees wind slight out of east northeast

Hunted an oak ridge bordered by pines on one side and 4 year old cutover on 2 sides... Got to the stand at 5.45 am.. All settled down at 6:05 am I see and hear something coming my way. As it gets about sixty yards I can tell its at least an 8 point around 17 inch spread however when I try to scope the deer its too dark... I watch this deer travel out of sight trying to get him in the scope the entire 200 yards I can see him, thats why they call it hunting.... but its a good feeling this stand is where it is because i have hunted it 2 times and seen bucks on both trips to it....didnt see anything else this am as the winds picked up and got gusty.......

11/22/08 pm hunt copiah

winds directly out of the east 50 degrees

Hunted food plot surrounded by cutover on 3 sides and a large tract of oaks on the other... Got sttled in the stand at 3:15... I bow hunted this plot a couple of times from my climber but for rifle i decide to hunt from the box stand... I was not disappointed as 3 yearlings entered the plot at 3;55. I watched these as they fed and played for almost an hour. they fed on off the plot at 4;40 into the oaks... At 4;55 2 large does and 3 yearlings enter the plot, The largest doe was one I reckonized from bow hunting because she had limped on her rite front leg. I put the scope on her and waited for her to turn to one side.. She came directly towards me for 50 yards before turning... The 130 grain coreloct found its spot and dropped her in her tracks....shot was made at 4:49 pm..

I sat there for the next 30 minute gave thanks and not to disturb others hunting close by....

Doe weighed in at 120 pounds and the limp was caused by being shot in the leg sometime in the past...

11/23/08 pm hunt copiah

warm and slight breeze out of the south east

hunted a food plot that sits between 2 creeks in a pine thicket. got in the box stand at 3.00pm and nothing stirring until 5.11pm.. no birds singing nothing... at 5.11 a small doe comes out to my right less than 20 yards from the box... I watch as she keeps looking into the thicket and acting a wee bit nervous... at 5.20 pm a spike enters into the plot and checks into the doe then he turns and goes back to the edge where he entered. he meets up with a 4 point and they begin to spar and then they start a all out fight... I watch the do this about 20 mins through my binocs, then they just stop and start eating I weighted and watched untill tehy fed to the other end of this plot... with teh clouds covering teh moonlight I couldn see anymore I exited teh stand at 6.05 pm and they never blew... it was definetly a good end to the opening weekend.....

11/29 am hunt copiah county

light rain and kinda warm at 56 degrees

Hunting a spot that 5 finger ridges come together and form a creek in the bottom loaded with acorns on all ridges...

Arrived at the stand a little late as daylight was already breaking at 6;25 am... Hunted until 10 30 am and no sighting.....

On the way back to the wheelie i decided to look into some cutover that I had been wanting to hunt so I walked into the cutover on a well used trail... Within 20 yards I jumped several deer which would have been with in easy range of the tree I had decided on earlier... next time I cath the wind right i will climb by this cutover...

chilly 44 degrees cloudy and breezy

hunted a large food plot with mixed hard woods along a creek bottom got settled into the stand at 6 am sharp.... at 8 45 am heard a shot on the next section and the thought okay its about to get good.... next thing I hear my buddies wheelie approaching and I look behind me and he is standing 50 yards behind me.. so I gathered my stuff up and down I climb... I was plannin on staying in my stand until at least 10:30.... He thought I had shot and he was ready to head back to camp so he had come to help me load a deer.... after a tense moment of being po'ed we had a good laff and went on back to camp....
