12/20/08 am hunt 60 degrees wind steady out of the south

Copiah County

I get two guest to theeir stands and get to mine and settled in by 6 am. Hunted until 10am and saw not one deer.

pm hunt I got to the stand at 3;30pm, not in no hurry because of the heat. Hunting a food plot in an older pine thicket... At 4 30 have a spike come out and feeds until a 3 point comes out at 4.45 and runs him off. At 5 pm a doe steps out and feeds until dark... I wait until 6 pm to exit the stand....

12/21/08 Copiah County am hunt

Windy with gust up to 30mph out of the north 42 degrees and dropping

I get to a finger ridge of old hardwoods that sticks out into a young (2 to 3 y/o pines) I climb a stand that I got set out on 12/20 and am settled in at 6 am... At 6 45 am I have an 8 point that doesnt meet club requirements come out down wind and feeds for about 15 minutes... as I watch him feed off I here a shot from the general area I had one of my guest is hunting.... Few minutes later my phone buzzes and its my guest he has a good buck down.... I told him I would be there in about 30 minutes... He is all excited and I have a small doe walking up so I told him I need to get off the phone... I watch this doe feed off.... I start getting ready to climb down out of the tree... Lower my rifle and about to strart climbing and the phone buzzes again... Its my guest he said the buck wasnt as good as he first thought and for me not to hurry...He was then going back to camp to wait..... as I was talking with him I had another 2 does feeding my way so I had to raise my rifle back up and reload teh whole time these 2 does were getting closer..... As they fed under my stand I was ready but decided not to take a doe with all the buck sign in this area...... I stayed in this swaying tree untill 9 am and climbed down went back to camp... Talked with my buddy and assured him his buck would meet club criteria and it did..

9 point 185pounds 16 inch spread...5 on left beam messed up rite beam that was broken....

no pics because camera wouldnt work then we couldnt find the disposable camera at camp... Have a buddy thats going to skull mount it I will post pics when I get it back from him.....

12/21/08 pm hunt Copiah County

went to the stand late because the wind was extremely high out of the north and it was 38 degrees

Hunted a food plot surrounded by hardwoods on 3 sideds and cutover fresh on the other....Got to the stand at 3.50 pm.. I looked around the food plot before climbing into the shooting house I saw a spike that had come into the foodplot... i wasnt worried about the wind or noise but I would climb a step he would look up then go to eating I take another step he would look... finally got settled into the stand at 4.15 pm... The spike stayed there untill 4.45 and finally fed off into the hardwoods... As the spike left I had does enter the plot from 3 different areas almost at the same time... I watched all these does feed until 5.50 which it had finally gotten dark enuff for me not to see them but I stayed in the shooting house until 6 pm just to be safe...

Great hunts just the wind was terrible, I normally dont hunt in this type of wind but haveing guest with me. I didnt want them to waste a trip.... saw lots of deer and really enjoyed the weekends events...

I did have one doe that I would love to have shot but our camp rules there are no does shot in food plots after dec 1st until jan 15th....

12/26/08 pm hunt copiah county

hot 70 plus degrees and howling winds......

I sat just inside the wood line of a 3 acre food plot, I was on a ridge inside this wood line overlooking a creek..... about 5;10 pm I here a comotion in the creek and a doe comes flying out so I get my rifle ready and pick out a clearing as the doe continues looking back I do as well, i see horns coming out of the creek I get a hole in the brush where the doe had run through and as the buck enters the clearing I squeeze teh trigger and the 270 does the rest....

Upon getting to the deer I realize It wont quite make the club requirements, and will cost me 300 dollars.... Which does slow my celebratory dance one bit..... I have a beautiful 10 point down , I never have killed a 10 so I gladly paid my fine...

10 point 160 pounds
13.5 inside spread (club criteria must be minimum of 15)

pics to follow once I get em back

12/28/08 am hunt slight breeze out of the north and a chilly 42 degrees

I decide on a ridge that runs along a creek into a cutover... I got settled into my stand at 6 am and at 6:45 I watch a doe walk the creek and then come over the ridge which I am on and into our neighbors property...... At 7:10 I see a buck coming along the line the doe walked and attempted to scope him for the next 200 yards... He finally gives me a shot at about 175 yards and he bolts across the creek and about halfway up the rige I am sitting on before he drops about 70 yards from my stand,,,

He was a lil younger than one I would have like to have taken but this was on state law land and the doe got shot rite before I shot the 8.

8 point 155 pounds
13 inch inside with 17 inch beam length

pics to follow

at 3pm 63 degrees rain starting and wind picking up to 20 mph out of the south changing to from the west at 3.45 pm and temps dropping fast... Storm rolls in..... I decide to hunt a cutover in a tent I had placed earlier in the day... I am sure glad I tied it down good because about the time I sat down the storm rolled in and tried to toss my tent.... Then the rain slowed to a drizzle as the temp dropped all the way to 35... Was hoping this would get the deer to moving... Not.... sat there until 6 pm with my teeth chatering because I didnt where enuff....

01/18/09 pm hunt

warm 58 degrees stead 10 mph breeze from west and north

Moved a stand next to a thicket in a big bottom where I found some oaks still dropping acorns and four ridges come together....

I hung the stand at 1 pm and as I climbed to make sure all was okay I heard something coming from behind me.... I turned and sit in the seat of the climber as I watched a 3 point come through the bottom following a scent trail is all i could fire watched him walk out of site and climbed down and eased out...

got back to the stand at 3 30 pm . I started seeing deer at 4 pm in the thicket that I set up to watch... I saw sveral deer during the afternoon hunt but nothing to shoot or anything that gave me a good shot... As i was climbing down I heard something extremely close coming from the back side of the stand. I terned on my flashlight and there he was not 15 yards be hind me after shooting hours and un unloaded and on the ground... I switched the flashlight to the red led's immediately and sit there and watched him ease on off into the bottom... He wasnt spooked that I know of but he gave me a game plan for nest week if I can get a sw or west wind
