New Skwirl Rifle And My First Mosey-Along With It

Postby Todd Macko » Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:05 pm

I recently picked up a 10/22 Camo Carbine from a nice fellar. I took a few minutes to adjust the scope to my liking and took a little stroll with it

Weren't as active as I thought they might be but did catch this un atop a fallen tree.

I may just have to do a little more of this!

That's a nice looking little rifle. All you need now is a dog to tree those fuzzy little rascals for you and then you can have some real fun.

It's addictive popping them off with a .22. You'll have tons of fun with that gun.

Little fellow has been sharing a hot bath with some spice and onions for the last few hours! I'll pick bones out in the morning and add some fixins. I'm hoping the wife don't peek while he's looking like a naked poodle or I'll be eating all by my lonesome!

I believe you're right. It got me to thinking how much fun having an accurate little 22 pistol with scope for woods carry could be and so much more convenient. Anybody have suggestions for an auto pistol/scope combo that is ideal for small game?

I have a Ruger Govt Target and a Browning Buckmark that I squirrel hunt with some. Both are plenty accurate but the edge goes to the Ruger because ease of scoping. I had a S&W for awhile but really never liked the gun and sold it. A quality red dot is something to consider rather than a scope. The more magnification you have the tougher it is to shoot IMO. I had a 2-7 on my Ruger and it was hard to hold steady enough with arms extended to see through the scope. Some kind of shooting stick or staff would be a good thing to carry if you go with a scope. It would help steady your hold.

What about using a .22 pistol ? Bet that would throw the squirrels a huge edge in the game.

I've got a Ruger bearcat that I bought new in 1968 and have killed quite a few skwirls with it over the years. Gotta hold it close..
