Took just two dogs out this past week for a short afternoon hunt. Had a veteran female named Fancy and a first yr pup we call Whitey. Were able to get a couple kill shots on video and I demo how to "push gut a rabbit" in the field - no knife needed!

Squeeze gutting a rabbit makes a stinky process extra-stinky. We gutted them as we shot them back in the day and tried that for awhile....it was awful. You clean 40 or 50 rabbits when you are tired and hungry and have to smell that mess..it will make you use a knife.

Bullie-

The only time I have notice push / squeeze gutting a rabbit to be a "stinky, mess" is if they are shot up and shot heavily in the back half. You will notice in the video, these guts came out clean, no blood. If I have a rabbit that is shot heavily in the back half, I use a knife to gut them.

But, we all have our personal preferences and as for me, I'll keep gutting them as I hunt. Makes them lighter and I believe the meat is fresher / less spoiled than waiting hrs. to get back home and clean them.
