Ready for some squirrel hunting now

Postby huntall » Sun Jan 31, 2016 7:54 am

Every year I set aside every weekend in February to squirrel hunt with my boys.if we go to my place for the weekend we also set out a line of traps. We also usually do a bond fire and cook at least one meal on a good coal bed next to the fire.

we don't have a squirrel dog. We sit against a tree first thing in morning to kill a few squirrels then we all go check traps and start shaking vines to run them out of the nest. It's a whole family thing. They get tired of me constantly making sure gun is on safety, but I tell them that's what dad's do.
Even my wife goes and ends up shooting a little. We let our 3 boys do most of the shooting.
That reminds me....I got to buy some more amo.....they like to shoot

You are a great dad. I know alot of dad's don't wanna bother with the hassle of what you just talked about. They would rather hand a kid and video game and say see ya.

I'm ready too. I will hunt as much as possible my 2 weeks off in February with my son and dog. He's 26 now, my son, not the dog, but because of all the years of doing things like you are with your family, we as still very close and always hunt together. Those things are the glue that keeps families together. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Thanks...it's a lot of fun and the kids can be on the move and not just sit there. Always something to keep them interested.

The state of MS is holding youth squirrel hunts in 7 locations through out the state on February 13th. Go to their website to sign up and get more info on a hunt near you. I've participated in this hunt a few years now and will be at the O'Keefe hunt this year.
It's free and it's a blast! Several of my buddies will be at these hunts state wide and they will be bringing their top notch dogs!

GTK, I'm down!
