Impressed myself

Postby RoadRanger » Tue Feb 09, 2016 9:07 pm

Took the old marlin .22 out to check the zero this evening. Thinking bout doing some varmint hunting this weekend. At 50 yards it was hitting high the first 4 shots.

A little adjusting and I impressed myself by putting 6 rounds in an area the size of my wedding ring! No real rest just leaning on the corner of my truck.

As a side note the holes at the top and far left were holes from a few days ago.

That's good shooting. I'm going to take my 22 with me and sit on a foodplot and shoot some rabbits this weekend.
I go sit about last hour and half in the evening. I usually do pretty good. I killed 5 one evening last year. I don't expect to do that good this year, because the bobcat numbers have really increased this year.
I shot several bobcats this deer season but they really been working on the rabbit numbers on my place.
Here is one I shot during deer season.

Nice cat, it would make a good mount.

I went varmint hunting the other night and called in lots of critters but my Son in law could'nt hit them. I called in one coyote first set and he missed then I called in a Bobcat on the second set and he missed. We went to another place and he wanted me to shoot so we called in another cat and I could'nt get a shot? We stopped at a little place on the way home and I called in one Grey Fox and he killed him. Would have been a good night if we would have killed the critters we called in. Oh well.

Here's one that I wish I would have mounted. One of the bigger cats I've called that was spotted up good. I sold the pelt instead.

Beautiful cat, what did you get for the pelt?

Nice, back in the late seventies, and early eighties. I trapped them and got ninety, to a hundred dollars a pelt. Then they put in the Russian embargo and the bottom fell out.

A few years ago some guys were taking cat hides to far south TX. and getting 200-250$ for prime hides and some were shipping to midwest and getting premium price but now it's hit or miss? The wife and I just took a ride and we saw 18 deer in one field all slick heads then 12 bucks together in another. Right before we got home a beautiful cat ran across the road about 30' in front of us.
