Wanted to know what is the overall opinion of the new Redfield Scopes. I am looking to replace one on my muzzleloader and looking at a 3x9x50. How do they compare to the Nikon ProStaff ? Thanks.

That muzzle loader is going to give the scope a good pounding. For that, I would go with the Nikon. Although I do not have any experience with the newer Redfields, I have heard they are not as tough as the older ones.

I put the Prostaff on my 45-70 and am very pleased.

Both are good scopes and probably very similar in quality. Redfields are being made by Leupold now and are darn good scopes for the money. And their warranty is hard to beat. I have a 2-7x Redfield on a 45/70 Marlin Guide Gun and it has had some hot stuff fired through it and it seems none the worse for the wear. Either scope should serve you well.

I have one of the new redfields on my knight kp1, 30-06, & it has held up great. I run dogs and it bounced around on the four wheeler all last year. Checked before season and it is still zeroed.

I have one of each in 3-9x40 and they are both great. I can't tell a difference but that may just be my eyes. Both have great eye relief and shoot very good. Also they are very clear and are good in low light.

Prostaff 3x9x40 is a great scope. Lots of eye relief, stays zeroed. Doesnt help much in low light though.

I really appreciate the info guys. But do I have a story to tell regarding my purchase of Redfield scope yesterday :livid: I had almost made my mind up to get one before all the positive comments which I am not doubting at all. I even have a friend who has one that has been pleased. But on to the story :livid: .

Yesterday afternoon, I go to BPS in Memphis to pick one up and purchase it and come home to mount, bore sight, and shoot it. When I get everything lined up I go to bore sight it and I notice the horizontal cross hair is not moving. So I think it is just me, and go and shoot it at 25yds :pray . It is off by 5 inches so I move it about 60 clicks(1/4 moa) and it hits the same place :bash: . I move it 60 more clicks and hits the same hole :bash: :bash: . So I get in my car and take it all the way back to Bass Pro to return/exchange it because I must say I am impressed with the eye relief and clarity for the money. So I go back to the counter and tell the guy I would like to exchange it but before I get another one I want to make sure that the cross hairs have adjustment. To make a long story short he unpackaged 3 and all of them the crosshairs would not move :bash: :bash: Both the salesman and I checked and he acknowledged they were not moving. So needless to say I just got my money back and walked out. Also buyers beware, I think he put them back on the shelf  I dont know if they got a bad batch or what but I was shocked to say the least. Just wanted to share this with yall. BTW I went with the prostaff from a different store :)

All I can say is wow. Hope you like the prostaff. Like I said before, I cant tell a difference between the two. But if I recall, I paid less for the prostaff than I did for the redfield.
