Hunting hogs at night

Postby LedJarvis » Mon Jan 30, 2017 4:31 am

What kind of gear would I really need to hunt them at night? I suppose a night vision scope would do the job. What I doubt is that it's essential. I mean, I thought it would be, at first, but then, I changed my mind. Hogs are not able to see in green light. And that means that a simple source of green light would suffice. But would it really? I never actually heard anyone doing that?
Has anyone of you tried hunting them like that? Was it effective?

I think the real problem would be killing them with a .22 or 4 shot. And, I guess putting night vision on a .22 is easy enough but the shotgun may be a problem.

Why would a link be unclickable? That's kind of the purpose of a link, to be clickable.

Or do you mean I should have cleared this with the mods before posting?

Concerning the problem with killing them (I mean the hogs, before you get any funny ideas), that might indeed be a problem. But only a problem, and not an impossibility.

No need to clear links before posting them as long as they're for information purposes. We occasionally get spammers that make a post then put a link in it to their website.

Lee is right, because you have a sentence as a link, I wondered if it was spam. You did post a regular www link like you wanted to share information. You notice I didn't remove it but gave the benefit of the doubt. Most members like to know what they are clicking on.

Didn't know that, sorry.

And, not to be rude, but I kind of still hope someone can answer my question. You know, about green lights and all.

I hunt them at night during a full moon... now if you want to get resneck.. go to Walmart or your local hardware store and buy the solar lights that folks put in their yards.. zip tie to a feeder and the hogs will get used to it then you can hunt during any moon phase. I have hunted with red and green lights but find the red is better than the green.

Smacko, that's a great idea. Never thought about doing it. Saves a bunch over a night sight.

I have hunted hogs day and night, and have enjoyed killing quite a few. My son bought me a green solar light panel that's supposed to mount to a feeder for hunting hogs. But I have not used it. I have killed most of mine from a stand in the late afternoon or early morning. I have night hunted them with dogs,
