I always used ivory bath soap and a mop bucket of hot hot hot almost scolding hot water to clean my ml, TC Renagade 50cal. It would get so hot you needed a pot holder.

I always shot saboted slugs.

Accuracy with a muzzle loader is based on a paradox: an undersized ball is spun by rifling that it never touches.
It is the job of the patch to securely grip both ball and rifling and to transfer the spin of the rifling to the projectile itself.

I cut my patches at the muzzle when just out shooting. When hunting I carry a loading block that has patch and ball all ready to go. ;)

BIGERN...RMC is where I got the brass ramrod for my Lyman. When I got mine they were $16.99 but it appears they're $25.99 now. They make them for about every model out there...you'll never break one. :) They also sell everything else...pretty good place. Guess now that I found it I oughta check about getting one for my .54 rifle. BTW...still haven't figured out where I got that custom rod for my longrifle. Anyway...here's the link to RMC.

Quite welcome. ;) Awful proud of their powder I see...good thing it's just for walk-in folks cause they sure wouldn't sell any to me thru an on-line order. Thru Powder Inc. one can get it for almost $10 a pound cheaper.

Are you using Black Powder or one of the repro powders? After Ernie started showing his rifle I thought about digging out one of mine. Not got much 3F left..

dont know what it was but it would shoot them well. we shot 265gr 44 hollow point slugs with the green sabots. shot 80gr of blackpodwer and then went to 100gr of pyrodex pellets. i could group em about an 1"@ 50yds with open sites. i "killed" a doe and buck with it. its a long funny story on the buck, and almost as funny on the doe.

i have since upgraded to the Rem 700ML in 50 with shotshell primers and 150 pyro with the same bullet.

Real blackpowder is all I use. Have quite a variety here at the house...Swiss 2f, 3f, 4f and NullB...Goex 2f, 3f,4f and Cartridge Grade...KIK 3f and Graf & Sons (Wano) 2f and 3f. Shame you're not my neighbor or I could fix you right up with some 3f. ;)

Sounds like a plan to me. Where do you get your lead for casting? Its not very often but I have been known to come across several old scrap battery terminals from time to time. :W:
