Bullet Casting

Anyone getting any casting in? Haven't had my pot fired up for awhile but figuring I ought to any time now.

My pot has sat idle long enough to get covered in dust. I have a decent sized sheet of lead in the back of the car I need to take in the garage too. For awhile, the gunshows around here had very reasonably priced cast boolits. I doubt that is the case anymore. I had several thousand laid back but they won't last much longer. I will be back to wheelweights and sunny afternoons sitting over the casting pot and listening to a ballgame or something.

When I could buy 500 bullets for $20 I wouldn't bother casting. Guess I need to pick up another bucket of wheelweights too.

I've a couple of 5 gallon buckets of WW's that need taken care of myself. Not sure what I'm gonna turn them into though...plenty of everything on hand.

pretty ingots would be a good start. I have heated the pot up and melted a bunch down and poured them into bars for later. Then the actual boolit pouring seems to go faster with clean metal.

Gonna plead a little ignorance here, but wouldn't the WW be a bit hard?

Go ahead and throw in the towel JB. :)
I just came from the shop...checking out cans of bullets and roundballs. There'll be no more casting roundballs for quite some time. ;) Brought home 150 of those .30 caliber 150 gr. flat point gas check bullets...gotta have gas checks put on them and lubed/sized...then they're going to an ole boy in you all's neck of the woods that wants to try them out. ;)

Would you be interested in trying some 300 gr. flatpoints from a Lyman mould for your 45-70 JB? Have quite a few of them around that I'm not gonna use. Or anyone else?

I have shot some 295 cast flat points that are just wicked out to 200 yards. I gas checked them but with my powder load they probably didn't need it..
Also hollowpointed a few and they flew just like the solids
