Some time back I got into leather working. I really like making holsters. This is one I made of Veggie tanned tooling leather. 7-8 oz leather lined with 4-5 oz leather. The stitching is done by hand with artifical sinew. It's called the Saddle Stitch or Double Stitch. All edges are hand burnished. The dye is corn oil and sunshine.

Are you still working leather and what other items do you make ? I piddle with it some but nothing as professional your work. Mine is just rough/coarse handworks
like wraps and slinging things together.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

FC, I do a few knife sheaths. I've made a couple of shooting bags and a few holsters. I really enjoy the holsters best. I do make everything from scratch, no kits. However I use patterns if I can come by one for what I want to make. I had a good teacher, who passed away recently, and I read a lot. I learn a little more every time I make something. I'd like to see some of your work.

Nothing really worth showing from me, just simple stuff that I find a need for while hunting, made a sling that secures my rattling horns together that works pretty good.

I'd like to incorporate more leather into my hunting accessories but I've found out the hard way the tanned stuff most times has too strong a smell and makes my presence to easily detectable. A new pair of leather hunting boots is a prime example.

Quig, My wife has been having some trouble for the past few months. We are in Dallas right now. Jeanne had to have a bypass done in an artery in her neck. We should be home in a couple of days. I'll get back with you then.

Quig, I'm so sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I really haven't done any leather work since I last posted here. Until things settle down I probably won't be doing much leather work.

Things have been sort of hectic around here. My wife Jeanne has been having migraines about every day for several months. We were sort of hoping the bypass would maybe stop them but it hasn't. Took her to see the doctor again today and the doc increased her medication. Maybe this will work. I sure hope it does these headaches are really dragging her down.
