Everyone please remember your life jacket!

Postby chadbragg » Mon Feb 29, 2016 9:06 pm

I know most don't wear it myself included, but have them close by.

Today while fishing at Pickwick I a 65yo gentleman I spoke to and gave the 2 crappie fell out of his boat and we could hear him yelling for help. When we got to him he was barely hanging onto the back of his boat. I managed to get him inside his boat and he was coherent and talking. Then he apparently had a heart attack. I attempted cpr on him while getting towed to the boat ramp, then the 1st responders took over. They weren't able to resuscitate him. Please everyone be careful on the water!

So sad Chad. You did everything you could. We don't often wear our life jackets on the pontoon, but we always have them out and close by. The kids always wear theirs .

Very sad Chad, that's why they're called a life jacket. They are cumbersome at times, but they can save a life. As for children, adults must set examples. We cannot tell children to put their jacket on and us not do the same. I am sure the cold water didn't help any. Glad you were there to help. I know that scene will haunt you for awhile.

Very true Bigsteve, no difference than wearing a seat belt. You never know what might happen.

Man that's sad. Thank goodness you were as close by as you were or he may not have had any chance to make it. We may have a missing person in the news and no closure for his family.

I can't imagine how tough mentally that would be on you .. but, i'm glad you were there to be with him Chad. I'm sure his family appreciates the efforts you put toward saving his life. If you hadn't of been there, they would probably still be looking for the body.

Yeah it was one of those things I didn't think about at the time. The guy had told us he was from Indiana and spends winter down here. We talked to him for 10 min or so. It's definitely something I'll never forget!
